Ownership and Management

Revista CoPaLa. Construyendo Paz Latinoamericana is a specialized scientific and humanistic journal, published electronically, semiannually and under a non-commercial open access model, aimed at disseminating original research in the fields of social sciences, education and peace studies. Its electronic ISSN is 2500-8870, and it holds the Exclusive Rights Reservation of Title No. 04-2016-022416333800-203.

The journal publishes scientific articles, academic essays, research advances, case studies, theoretical analyses, state-of-the-art reviews, literature reviews, and critical or informative reviews related to peacebuilding, conflicts, violence, human rights, interculturality, peace education, coexistence, democracy, nonviolence, conflict transformation, critical pedagogies and participatory action research.

Revista CoPaLa receives submissions in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. All manuscripts are managed through the OJS platform and undergo an initial editorial review. When they meet the criteria of relevance and quality, they are submitted to academic assessment under a double-blind peer review process.

The journal does not charge fees for submission, processing, peer review, editing or publication of articles. Its editorial policy is based on academic integrity, transparency, open access, institutional and geographical diversity of authorship, peer review and the social contribution of scientific and humanistic knowledge.

Sources of Income

Revista CoPaLa does not require sources of funding for the submission, processing, peer review, editing or publication of articles.

Background and Editorial Purpose

Revista CoPaLa. Construyendo Paz Latinoamericana began in May 2016 with the purpose of disseminating knowledge, reflections and experiences that contribute to the praxis of nonviolent societies and peaceful coexistence, aimed at strengthening peacebuilding processes based on social justice, freedom, democracy, dignity and respect for social, political, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, sexual, national, regional and gender diversity, as well as for the multiple differences present in family, educational, social, regional, local, national, Latin American and global contexts.

CoPaLa seeks to be a journal open to different academic perspectives, to the social sciences and humanities, to diverse political and ideological views, to the thinking of social movements, Non-Governmental Organizations and civil society, provided that their contributions are related to the objectives of the journal.

In this regard, the journal encourages dialogue and discussion of knowledge, forms of wisdom, cultures, policies and experiences systematized with theoretical and analytical foundations from the perspectives of peace, conflicts, human rights and nonviolence.

CoPaLa is a semiannual electronic publication whose main objective is to disseminate scientific articles, research advances, essays, case studies, theoretical analyses and critical or informative bibliographic reviews from Latin America, the Caribbean or any other country, continent or region. Its contents are approached from different theoretical, epistemological and methodological perspectives related to democracy, peaces, conflicts, violence, interculturality, human rights, nonviolence, education for peaceful coexistence, methods of conflict management, resolution and transformation, as well as critical pedagogies and participatory action research experiences for peacebuilding in different social, family, educational, regional, national or global contexts.

The greatest value of Revista CoPaLa lies in the critical perspectives, reflections and discussions that authors and readers develop from the published works. Therefore, the journal invites academic contributions to this collective project for the construction of Latin American thought for peace.

Target Audience

Revista CoPaLa aims to inform and provide academic content to teachers, students, public servants, researchers, civil society organizations and the general public interested in the peaceful management of conflicts, peace education and harmonious coexistence in Mexico, Latin America and the rest of the world.

Peer Review Process

Revista CoPaLa carries out a peer review process known as the assessment process. This process requires two matching double-blind reviews, either approving or not approving the manuscript, in order to determine its inclusion in the journal.

The possible outcomes of the external peer review process are: accepted, publishable with modifications and not publishable. When the two reviews present different outcomes, a third review will be requested in order to obtain two coinciding evaluations.

Reviewers or referees are specialists in the topic addressed by the article and use the corresponding evaluation form established on the journal platform. Ninety-five percent of reviewers or referees are external to the publishing institution and come from national and international backgrounds.

Reviews are final and not subject to appeal. In the event of controversy, the situation will be resolved by the journal editor, in agreement with the Direction and the Internal Editorial Committee.

Publication Frequency

Since its creation, Revista CoPaLa has been a semiannual publication, organized into two periods: January-June and July-December.

Open Access Policy

Open access is established under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, which allows the use, distribution and reproduction of the work in any medium, provided that it is properly cited, used for non-commercial purposes and shared under the same license.

Functions of the International and National Advisory Boards

The Editorial Advisory Board is composed of national and international scholars of recognized standing. Its functions are:

To guide editorial guidelines in accordance with current national and international trends.
To contribute to maintaining the academic quality of the publication through recommendations on format, content and editorial orientation.
To propose, when necessary, general policies for strengthening the journal.
To support the updating of different editorial, academic and management aspects of the journal.

Functions of the Internal Editorial Committee

The Internal Editorial Committee is the journal’s internal body. It is composed of research professors, the editor and the Direction of the journal. Its functions are:

To contribute to the review, updating and formulation of editorial policies.
To serve as a liaison between the journal’s publishing institution, other institutions, academic groups and individual researchers.
To provide proposals for improving the journal in terms of format, content, editorial management and academic quality.
To propose the reorientation of the journal’s objectives when appropriate and to supervise the maintenance of its editorial quality.
To act as an advisory body for the editor and the Direction of the journal in cases not provided for in the guidelines for contributors or in its editorial policies.
