Corrections and retractions policy

Articles and other types of documents that have been published in Revista CoPaLa, Construyendo Paz Latinoamericana, will remain current, accurate and unchanged as far as possible. However, exceptional circumstances may arise in which an article is published that later must be corrected, retracted or even removed. In these cases, this will be done after careful consideration by the journal’s editorial team, to ensure that such actions are carried out with the highest guarantees and based on the standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The system of standards and control mechanisms for scientific communication has several main rectification procedures according to the type, severity and consequences involved (erratum notice, correction, retraction and, if necessary, removal of the published writing). In each case, the purpose will be for changes to be transparent and for the integrity of the academic record to always be guaranteed.

Errata

An erratum notice will be published when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the journal after publication that may affect the publication record or the reputation of the authors or the journal, but where the academic integrity of the article remains intact. Each error will be accompanied by a notice, which must provide clear details of the error, as well as the changes that have been made to the document.

Under these circumstances:

The article will be corrected.
A note will be added at the end of the article with reference to the erratum notice.
A separate erratum or correction notice linked to the corrected version will be published.
The erratum or correction document will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Corrections

A correction notice will be produced when it is necessary to correct an error or omission made by the authors that affects the publication record or the reputation of the authors or the journal, while ensuring that the academic integrity of the article remains intact. Each error will be accompanied by a notice, which must provide clear details of the error, as well as the changes that have been made to the document.

Under these circumstances:

The article will be corrected.
A note will be added at the end of the article with reference to the correction notice.
A separate erratum or correction notice linked to the corrected version will be published.
The erratum or correction document will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Retractions

A retraction notice will be published when an important error invalidates the conclusions of the article, or when there has been research misconduct or publication misconduct. Authors may request the retraction of their articles if their reasons meet the retraction criteria.

Retraction will be considered:

When there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, due to misconduct (for example, data fabrication or manipulation of some part of the content) or an error (for example, calculation error, experimental error, error in discussions or methodological handling).
When the findings have previously been published elsewhere without the necessary cross-references, permissions or adequate justification (for example, cases of redundant publication or duplicate publication).
When the research constitutes partial or total plagiarism.
When there is evidence of fraudulent authorship.
When there is evidence of compromised peer review.
When there are indications of unethical research.

Once the decision has been made to retract an article:

A watermark reading 'retracted article' will be added to the published version of the article record.
Before the title of the article, “Retracted article” [article title] will be placed.
A separate retraction statement will be published, titled “Retraction: [article title]”, which must be linked to the retracted article. This note will be signed by the journal’s editors.
The retraction statement will be paginated and assigned a DOI.

Removal of Articles

Removal of an article will take place in exceptional circumstances in which the problems are of a very serious nature and cannot be addressed by means of a correction or retraction notice.

This will only occur:

When the article is clearly defamatory or infringes other legal rights.
When an article is subject to a court order.
When the article, if no action is taken, could pose a serious risk to health.

If an article is removed, the metadata will be maintained (authorship and title) and the text will be replaced by a document indicating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.
