Editorial Ethics and Good Practices Policy (Deontology of publication)

Revista CoPaLa. Construyendo Paz Latinoamericana assumes editorial ethics as the guiding principle of its scientific and humanistic activity. Its processes are guided by criteria of academic integrity, transparency, impartiality, confidentiality, authorial responsibility, peer review, non-commercial open access and respect for the rights of persons participating in research.

The journal takes as a reference the good practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics, COPE, and promotes ethical conduct among authors, reviewers, editors, members of the editorial bodies and technical team.

Originality, Guidelines and Editorial Principles

Manuscripts submitted to Revista CoPaLa must be original, unpublished and not simultaneously submitted to another journal, book, editorial repository or academic publication outlet. Likewise, they must comply with the publication guidelines, the anti-plagiarism policy, the conflict of interest policy, the open access policy and the ethical principles applicable to scientific and humanistic research.

Responsibility of Authors

Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, truthfulness, integrity and proper citation of the contents submitted. They must also declare any conflict of interest, source of funding, use of generative artificial intelligence when it has occurred, availability of data or materials when applicable, as well as compliance with ethical principles in research involving people, communities, institutions or sensitive information.

When the manuscript derives from research involving people or communities, authors must observe principles of informed consent, confidentiality, anonymity, personal data protection, respect for human dignity, non-discrimination and care for the integrity of participating persons.

Editorial Review and Academic Assessment

Received manuscripts will be submitted to an initial editorial review to verify thematic relevance, compliance with guidelines, originality, anonymity of the file, minimum formal quality and correspondence with the focus of the journal. When appropriate, they will be sent to academic assessment under a double-blind modality, in which both authors and reviewers will remain anonymous.

Responsibility of Reviewers

Reviewers must evaluate assigned manuscripts with objectivity, confidentiality, academic respect, thematic competence, impartiality and absence of conflict of interest. They must not share, reproduce, cite, use or enter, totally or partially, the manuscripts into external generative artificial intelligence platforms, translation services, online proofreaders, summarization systems, textual analysis tools or any other service that compromises the confidentiality of the editorial process.

Editorial Responsibility

Editors and members of the editorial bodies must act with impartiality, confidentiality and academic responsibility. Editorial decisions must be based on the scientific quality of the manuscript, its thematic relevance, the academic reviews received, compliance with editorial guidelines and the principles of academic integrity. When there is a conflict of interest, the editor or member of the editorial body must refrain from intervening in the corresponding process.

Unaccepted Conduct

Unaccepted conduct includes plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication or manipulation of data, alteration of results, manipulation of citations, use of nonexistent references, improper authorship, honorary authorship, ghost authorship, omission of legitimate authorship, simultaneous submission, undeclared conflict of interest, manipulation of the review process, non-transparent use of generative artificial intelligence and any practice that compromises academic or editorial integrity.

Editorial Measures before Publication

When any irregularity is detected before publication, the Editorial Committee may determine measures such as return of the manuscript, request for clarifications, suspension of the process, rejection of the manuscript or annulment of the corresponding review.

Editorial Measures after Publication

When an irregularity is detected after publication, Revista CoPaLa may issue corrections, retractions, editorial notices or, in exceptional cases, withdraw the published content, in accordance with its corrections and retractions policies.

Sanctions or Editorial Measures

Sanctions or editorial measures will be determined by the Editorial Committee according to the seriousness of the case, the available evidence and the principles of confidentiality, impartiality, proportionality and academic integrity. These measures may include a temporary restriction from publishing in the journal when practices contrary to editorial ethics are proven.
