Abstract

This paper presents the results of an assessment on the implementation of interculturality has been carried out in a public higher education institution in Jalisco, Mexico a state located in the western part of the country. Taking the functional and critical models of interculturality as a frame of reference, it is analyzed whether one or the other has been followed in the institution. In addition to contextualizing these two types of interculturality, a proposal is made for a methodological tool called "consensual interview", which is derived from the horizontal methodologies developed within the framework of the so-called southern epistemologies. Also, the main contributions of teachers, researchers, and officials are brought together to draw a pathway to switch from a functional interculturality to a more critical one or a "balance" one, as some of the interviewees put it.  In this way, this article aims to contribute both at the methodological level and to the analysis of the type of interculturality that is carried out in the university campus examined.
