Ethics of happiness from the philosophical perspective of Seneca.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Currently, humanity faces a crisis of ethical and moral awareness, derived from the vicissitudes posed by the material and symbolic consumpion society and the advent of artificial intelligence. Hence, in this essay we will reflect on the concept of happiness as a conjecture of reason and the need to practice detachment from the material things, the balance of human passions and the acceptance of the finiteness of man, as conditions to aspire to fullness. This reflection is carried out from the Senecan Stoic approach, taking the practical philosophy as a starting point. The primary findings bring us closer to the understanding of nature as a principle of all things, which endows us with rationality for a virtuous life, so that, without the development of virtue, the individual balance is violated before the offer of the consumer society. Therefore, we finally glimpse that the practice of stoic ethics, which is of a timeless character, is constituted as a philosophical alternative to manage the onslaughts of postmodernity.
