Simón Rodriguez and his intution about racial discrimination as a colonial power of the 19th century.

Abstract

Our objective, based on the work of the Venezuelan teacher Simón Rodríguez, was to examine racism linked to education and its political consequences. Furthermore, following in his writings the racist criticism towards colonial Europe of the 19th century, we distinguish a possible precursor of the decolonial analysts of the 20th century. For example, Anibal Quijano, as part of those analysts, considers that the racial issue used by the conquerors founded the domination, exploitation and ignorance in America. Likewise, we were able to corroborate, through Rodríguez's texts and certain of his commentators, that he interpreted that colonial teaching practices, which differentiated pedagogical spaces according to race, prevented an egalitarian education, that is, a Social or Popular Education. The result of our examination was that, despite having been alien to certain contemporary decolonial categories, he discovered in the distinction of races made in school institutions the difficulty that would mean arriving at a true Republic. In conclusion, Simón Rodríguez in many of his texts left testimony to the importance of the link between colonialism, racism and education.
