Culture of peace: an egotistical paradox

Clemens Bauer

Abstract

In the present text an individualistic and selfish approach is proposed towards a true culture of
peace. Starting from an initial focus on ourselves, even if we have to ignore the needs of other
people, it is argued that this can lead to a true understanding of our own feelings and thoughts as
well as the true nature of reality. Then, using this understanding, one can move on to a second
effort where you help others and make a real change towards a more peaceful world. This
approach will be derived from two examples, on the one hand the teachings of the Bodhisattva
path and on the other from the ideas of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.
