Psicocalle Colectivo: A university proposal for peace education and peace building

Abstract
This essay narrates the trajectory of Psicocalle Colectivo, a transdisciplinary university initiative to investigate from neurosciences, pharmacology, anthropology and psychology the phenomena of homelessness and the use of psychoactive substances, as well as to perform psychosocial and educational interventions. The narrative is guided by premises embodied in the Declaration for the Transition towards a Culture of Peace in the 21st Century written in 2018. The narrative analysis concludes with a proposal for an action-research model framed in a notion of a culture of peace that considers marginalization and exclusion as subtle violence, and education for peace and compassion as strategies to connect with otherness and use scientific knowledge to solve social problems. The model argues that social action allows the development of empathic skills, sense of agency, and introspection that favor social commitment, cooperation, reflection on Human Rights, and politically responsible scientific work that defines university students as peacebuilders.
